Why choose Saline Breast Implants?
You may be one of few patients in Las Vegas looking for a plastic surgeon that works with saline breast implants. Dr. Lane Smith performs thousands of breast augmentations and has expert experience with this implant type. Dr. Smith believes in giving you as many choices as possible. Saline is the same fluid that goes into an IV, mainly water with a little bit of salt similar to saline eye drops. Once the saline breast implant is in the appropriate space under your breast, or pectoralis muscle, Dr. Smith inflates your implant with sterile saline or salt water. If they rupture, you will typically know immediately. Your body harmlessly absorbs all of the saline solution that leaks into your body.
Saline breast implants tend to be more firm and have a higher incidence of rippling. An advantage of saline implants is that they are more cost effective. A disadvantage of Saline implants is that saline breast implants tends to look a little more “fake”, and have a higher chance of rippling and waviness. Most of the patients choose the more natural feeling and looking silicone implants. Because of its shape and the consistency, saline breast implants feel can feel like water balloons, and do not have the ‘gummy” or fatty feeling of real breasts.

Why use Gummy Bear Breast Implants?
The popularly named gummy bear breast implants are cohesive gel, and they’re form-stable. If you push hard enough on the breast implant, you can alter the shape slightly, however it doesn’t really leak. Not to mention difficult for them to change shape. For this reason the new silicone implants are often called gummy bear implants. The old silicone implants from the 1980’s were less viscous and could actually leak. Dr. Smith does not use these implants at all. The new silicone implants are FDA approved and are considered to be as safe as saline implants.
Because of their material, form-stable breast implants can be shaped; of which being teardrop and round shaped. Teardrop shaped implants mimic the natural shape of the breast, with a finished result that is less full but more natural. The shape of teardrop implants can also cause issues if the implant rotates, whereas there is little noticeable difference if a round implant rotates.

Why choose Silicone Breast Implants?
Chances are that you’ll choose the flexibly gained by choosing silicone breast implants. They tend to be more natural feeling, and looking, implants. One type of silicone breast implants are filled with silicone gel, simply called silicone gel implants. They look and feel a little more natural than saline breast implants. They also tend to have less chance of waviness and last longer.
Patients are often concerned that the silicone implants will rupture and leak. The silicone gel used today is very thick and viscous. This means if the implant ruptures, the implants cannot really leak. They can crack, however it is difficult for the silicone to go anywhere. This is similar to a gummy bear breast implant, which is the other type of silicone breast implant.

Why choose Round Breast Implants?
If you’re looking to get fuller appearance, you’ll want to choose round breast implants. Many women in Las Vegas prefer this exaggerated look, so these implants are more likely to appear “fake”. Dr. Lane Smith will use round breast implants if you’re looking to have your breasts appear fuller than teardrop implants can achieve. Because round implants are “round” all over, there’s also less concern about them rotating out of place.
